In 2016, after only dating for a few months, Josh popped the question to me one sunday afternoon, on the living room couch. It was a lot more romantic than it sounds - trust me.
We were living in Washington at the time, but the following summer we had an unexpected and quick move down to the sunny state of California, as Josh had accepted a job offer he couldn't refuse. The move meant, unfortunately, that I would be forced to take a hiatus from school. Thus began a montage of me trying out multiple different hobbies (tennis was the most short lived). Finally, the idea came to me to try my hand at making candles for our upcoming wedding, as favors to the guest.
I set to work with a starter kit and hours of research. It took a few tries to get it right. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed making the candles. After the wedding, I began to get messages from our guests about how much they loved them - and I'm a sucker for positive reinforcement.
At the time I was also very into the Bookstagram community and still am. I wanted to utilize this new found love for candle making to another level with my creativity and passions. Thus the first bookish candle was made. Any guesses on what it was?
It was our Robin Hood candle - which is still available in the shop. Robin Hood has always been my favorite story for as long as I can remember. I devour every re-telling book, movie, or show that comes out. I was inspired and began to keep a journal for all the ideas that just kept coming to me. Josh and I worked day and night creating labels for our new baby candle company.
Our goal was to create a candle as calming and inspiring as it smelled. I wanted our candles to look like they belonged on Jane Austen's windowsill while she worked away on her amazing stories. Or on the bookshelf of a cozy, Hobbits study room.
It has definitely been a journey to get to where we are now, but there's no going back for us, and we've got a lot more in store to show you all.
